Sunday December 5, 2010: Sarah's Scarf

Spent a lovely morning knitting. Momma came home from Seattle and brought me back 3 skeins of my first Noro. I keep asking it to speak to me, but it's really not telling me what it wants to be made into. Mittens, perhaps? Not another scarf, especially with it's rough, wooly texture.
Sarah texted around 1:30 and we went to lunch in Geneva. I never would have left my cozy little spot, but Dick and Di were having company and I didn't want to be a part of it. The afternoon turned longer than I had planned, but at least I left with some treats from Graham's Chocolates and Kernel Fabyan's Popcorn. Came home and headed right for my knitting nest.
The bottom photo shows what I meant when I was trying to explain that I didn't like how it looks whtn the black and white mix. As soon as the colors become darker and more simple the pattern becomes visible again. Got to wondering what will happen if the variations in the colors of Sarah's scarf don't agree with me. The whole point of the variegated yarn was serendipity, but the piece will essentially have to end in the same color in which it began or it runs the risk of looking haphazard. To avoid this I might have to break the yarn and do a little planning. And plan for less white areas. I don't like the idea of messing with chance....
