All hell broke loose today. If there was any Christmas carol humming, it was done early in the day. I was knitting along nicely and suddenly the yard was full of boys with heavy equipment. Apparently the house had sprung a leak in the connection from the well to the basement. Dad called in the troops and they decided to fix it today, in 10 degree weather. Momma made sure to let dad know that if any of her landscaping were to get ruined she would have a fit. And apparently dad failed to pass that message along to the guys doing the digging. A four foot trench was dug across the yard all the way through her flower garden to the well pump. This hole kept growing in size as momma was hanging holly leaves over the windows, and I could see and hear the Christmas wind coming out of her sails. She was furious, she now hated the world. I had to get her out of the house. We took dad's truck, the conversation between the two of them as we were leaving was anything but festive, and we went in search of a Christmas tree. She was a pain in the ass, her temper was still raging when we got to Lowes. Even after a nice lunch at Panera and a latte from Caribou, she was carrying her black cloud of rage. We got the tree in the truck and headed to Dekalb to check out a yarn store we had never been to, and also to blow time until it got dark out, ensuring the absence of workers when we got home. Store was closed, hours 10am-2pm!!!! How ridiculous! They must do a lot of online business. So we got home around 4, she was pissed at the world. I went down to the fort and knitted happily for the rest of the night...
