Wednesday December 8, 2010: Sarah's Scarf and Day 1 and 2 of Advent Calendar Scarf

I found the coolest knitting website ravelry.com It's been stealing a healthy amount of my time. Not only can you log your projects, but you can track your yarn stash, needles, etc, all while seeing what others are working on, blogging, or chatting about, AND download thousands of free patterns! The site rocks. Anyway, someone posted a lace Advent Calendar Scarf that you start Dec 1st and complete on Christmas. After plenty of review, I decided to start it today, 8 days behind schedule. The pattern calls for about 600 yards of lace weight yarn and about 300 beads. Beads! How cool! So I started it with some antique white Patons Lace that I had on hand and realized I was up to the challenge, so far it was so much fun, I got so excited. But the house is still in complete Christmas disarray with nothing I can do to help and I felt like getting out and getting some shopping done. After a dip in the hot tub at the gym and some lunch at Potbelly, I spent a luxurious hour in the yarn section at JoAnn Fabrics. I picked up some yarn for a wool cable knit hat pattern that I queued on ravelry, some Noro look alike for mittens (maybe?, it was just so pretty), and 2 of the 3 colors of alpaca that I need to finish Sam's Scarf. And a few other skeins.... But best of all, I finally bought the complete set of interchangeable round knitting needles by Boyle. Momma bout the set by Denise and I tried it and didn't like how the plastic needles bent under force. I like the feel of metal needles, but was warned that the screw on attachments can come loose. I decided I'd give them a shot, on sale 25% off so I paid about $60. I started on the Advent Scarf as soon as I got home and so far I love them. And the project. I might be putting beads on everything I make now! Also forgot how much I love the bead aisle at the craft store, so many ideas.

Here is completed day one of the Advent Calendar Scarf, I'm a bit behind!

xoxo
